One person injured in Wednesday night shooting on Cedar Street
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz police are investigating a shooting that happened on Cedar Street Wednesday evening.
At about 7 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting victim in the 400 block of Cedar Street.
When the first officer got there, he found the 31-year-old victim on the ground with a gunshot wound to their leg. The victim was losing a lot of blood, so the Police Department said the officer performed life-saving measures and applied a tourniquet.
The victim was taken to a trauma center in San Jose where they are recovering.
Detectives said they have been following up with the victim and witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, and police are still looking for a suspect. Police said gang investigators are looking into possible ties.
There was a protest happening at the time of the shooting, but Santa Cruz police said the shooting was not related to it.
