"BAD COPS MUST GO TO JAIL," says Monterey County NAACP

SEASIDE, Calif. (KION)

The Monterey County NAACP is speaking up in solidarity with protestors on the Central Coast as they demand change in law enforcement.

Demonstrations across the country began about a week ago following the death of George Floyd, an African American man from Minneapolis, who died at the hands of police officers after a confrontation.

What started off as peaceful protests quickly turned into a violent clash between protesters and police officers.

Fires, destruction and looting is happening in states across the nation.

This has not been the case on the Central Coast but residents say they are determined to send a message.

In a press release, the NAACP said change starts with leadership and encourage them to take their protests to the ballot box.

In the meantime, they say their plan of action involves establishing a fund for donations that will be sent directly to Floyd's family.
