Road closures expected to begin in Downtown Salinas
SALINAS, Calif. (KION)
Closures in parts of Downtown Salinas will begin today for ongoing construction.
This is part of the city's effort to create the city's Main Street Streetscape project.
According to the city, this project was started as a way to expand and revitalize parts of the town for visitors and businesses.
The city says crews said they hit some road blocks along the way.
This is referring to some sandy layers the city says were found underground, which they say was unexpected.
Now, Cal Water is installing a new water line.
Some business owners say they've already seen some negative impacts with prior construction.
"We've been having some issues with construction just because they've been hitting water pipes and we have no water for several hours," says Sushi Daruma owner, Dennis Woo.
Construction is taking place between Alisal and San Luis Streets.
The city says sections will also be closed on Friday and Monday but could open up earlier if conditions improve.
