Seven suspected members of burglary crew arrested for string of thefts on Monterey peninsula
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Seven suspected members of a burglary crew, called the "Unlucky 7" by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, have been arrested in connection to a string of burglaries around the Monterey peninsula.
The first four suspects were arrested Friday. At around 4 p.m., detectives at the Casa Verde Inn in Monterey said they saw Miguel and Roberto Escobar, 25-year-old twins from Watsonville, and two Salinas women, 38-year-old Tianna Perez and 25-year-old Lacey Kielley.
The four were staying at the motel, and investigators said both women had warrants out for their arrest, Roberto Escobar was on parole and Miguel Escobar was on probation.
While investigating, detectives said they found items that were stolen during recent burglaries, drugs and fraudulent checks. All four were arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail. They are facing drug and theft-related charges.
While continuing to investigate, detectives said they found 34-year-old Jeffrey Walker of Monterey, 32-year-old Anthony Enders of Marina and 37-year-old Cristina Boatwright of Marina Wednesday. All of them were considered persons of interest in earlier home burglaries.
The Sheriff's Office said deputies tried to stop the three when they were in a vehicle, but they sped off and led deputies and detectives on a high-speed chase through Salinas.
Investigators said the suspects eventually abandoned their dog, ran from the vehicle and tried to hide in a south Salinas neighborhood. They were arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail. All three are charged with evading a police officer, resisting arrest, burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle and drug possession.
The dog was found safe and is at Monterey County Animal Services.
The Sheriff's Office said investigators were able to return tens of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property to its owners.
