MCSO arrests international murder suspect Sunday
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Sheriff's Office arrested an international murder suspect in Salinas Sunday morning on the 700 block of Elkington Avenue.
The sheriff's office investigation division says they became aware of a man living in Monterey County who had an Interpol Red Notice issued for him, which is a request to authorities around the globe to potentially find and detain a wanted person.
At around 11 a.m. Sunday, authorities found Raul Ramirez Perez leaving his home on Elkington Avenue in Salinas and getting into a car. Deputies followed Perez for a short distance before pulling the car over on the 400 block of North Sanborn Road.
Perez initially denied that he was the target of an Interpol Red Notice and gave investigators a fake name, according to the sheriff's office.
About 10 minutes later, Perez ended up giving his true identity, and later fingerprint identification confirmed it. Federal authorities took Perez into custody and he is being transported to Mexico.
He will be turned over to Mexican law enforcement once he reaches the border.
Perez is wanted in connection for a murder in Mexico.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigators were involved during Perez's arrest in Salinas.
