Police: Two people injured in Salinas stabbing following domestic violence incident
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Police said two are being treated for non life-threatening stab wounds after a domestic incident in Salinas Monday evening.
Police said at around 5:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a stabbing in the 500 block of Leslie Drive.
During an investigation, officers found that four people were drinking at a home there when one of the stabbing victims, 23-year-old Alejandro Arias, allegedly argued with his girlfriend and eventually started punching her in the mouth. Two other people there, 21-year-old Miguel Saucedo and a 17-year-old juvenile, then apparently started to argue with Arias.
After that, police said Arias and Saucedo started fighting each other, and during the fight, they got knives from the kitchen and stabbed each other. Arias had a stab wound to his arm and abdomen, and Saucedo had a stab wound to his hand.
Police said Saucedo was hurt worse during the fight because Arias had him in a choke hold, so the juvenile allegedly also got a knife and stabbed Arias in the thigh to get him to release Saucedo.
When he was released, police said Saucedo and the juvenile sped away from the home.
Officers stopped Saucedo near Trinity Way and Sutter and connected him with the incident on Leslie Drive. He was arrested, and police said they found a semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle during a search.
Saucedo was booked into the Monterey County Jail and charged with possession of a weapon. A warrant request will be forwarded to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office on an assault with a deadly weapon charge.
Police said a warrant request will be forwarded to juvenile probation to get a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on the juvenile.
Arias was hospitalized for non life-threatening injuries. Police said he will be arrested and charged with domestic violence, attempted murder and child endangerment because there was a child present at the time of the incident.
