Six cars hit by Penske truck on Holman Highway Wednesday

UPDATE 4/23/2020 1 p.m. The CHP said a Penske delivery truck crashed into six other vehicles on Highway 68, or the Holman Highway, Wednesday.

At around 11:20 a.m., the CHP said the truck was heading east near Skyline Forest Drive and a construction zone when it hit six vehicles stopped in the westbound lane. The CHP said the driver had lost control for unknown reasons and crossed the double yellow lines.

The truck hit a red Buick Encore, a white Chevy Impala, a white Lexus RX350, a silver Honda Accord and a white Dodge Ram before landing on top of a white Mercedes E-450.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 71-year-old woman from La Selva Beach, was flown to Natividad with major injuries. Two other drivers were taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula with minor injuries.

The road was closed for about two hours as a result of the crash.

UPDATE 4/22/2020 1:30 p.m. Several people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 68 Wednesday morning.

Cal Fire said the crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. near the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, and multiple agencies responded.

Cal Fire said a Penske box truck was involved in a crash with three passenger vehicles, and a total of seven people were involved in the crash. One person had to be extricated from a vehicle.

Two people were taken by ground ambulance to CHOMP, and one person with major injuries was flown to another location.

A total of 19 first responders were at the scene.

PREVIOUS STORY: The CHP is at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the Holman Highway.

The CHP said the crash involved four vehicles and a Penske truck.

It happened just east of Skyline Forest Drive.

Caltrans is conducting traffic control at Skyline. There is a hard closure in place from Skyline to the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

A female is being extricated from one of the vehicles. The CHP is looking into whether there are any injuries.
