President Trump announces he will suspend immigration into the U.S.

WASHINGTON (KION)

President Trump announced he will be halting immigration into the United States, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a Monday night tweet, President Trump writes: "In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!"

CBS News reports that U.S. Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The CBS report goes on to say:

The details of the order and how it would be carried out were not immediately clear. A source familiar with the matter told CBS News the White House has been been working on it for several weeks. The source said the administration has learned from previous court rulings striking down different versions of travel bans, and as a result, there will likely be nuance and exceptions in this executive order so they can avoid injunctions.

This is a developing story.
