SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Salinas Police Department are looking for the suspect in a Monday morning attempted murder.

Police said it happened in the 100 block of Orchard Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. Officers responded to the area after a ShotSpotter activation and were told that a 23-year-old male victim was being driven to a hospital in a private vehicle. He is expected to survive.

Officers got in contact with the victim, who said he drove to Orchard Avenue to drop off a friend, and when he got out of the vehicle, he saw a silver Honda Civic with several men inside driving towards him.

The victim said he dove to the ground, but was hit once in the back. After the shooting, the vehicle left the area.

The suspect is described as a heavy set Hispanic man wearing a black hoodie.
