Two cited after group of teens allegedly seen challenging people to fight, violating Shelter in Place
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Salinas police said two teens were cited after they were seen riding their bicycles recklessly, challenging people to fight and violating the Shelter in Place order.
Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of 10 teens riding their bikes around the Creekbridge Shopping Center on Constitution Boulevard and challenging people to fight. When they arrived, officers found the group riding onto bike trails behind the Safeway.
Police said the group went towards Twin Creeks Golf Course, where they went in different directions.
Near Cobblestone and Fox Glenn Way, officers caught up to two 15-year-olds who they said refused to stop. Officers said they were belligerent, argumentative and combative while taunting the officers.
Eventually, police said they were able to get the two teens to the ground with help from a resident who was passing by. The other teens in the group got away.
Police said the department has received multiple complaints in the Creekbridge area over the past few weeks about a group of teens on bikes showing similar behavior, and they believe these two may be part of that group.
The two were cited for vehicle code violations, resisting arrest and violating the Shelter in Place order.
