(KION) What started out as art class, has turned into a passion.

The Gilsilva family has found a way to put a positive spin on these dark times. Using their talents to pass the time, and maybe even make some money. “I had two weeks off… I had nothing else to do. So I'm like let's paint some shoes,” says Samuel Gilsilva.

The family has all been painting and customizing kicks for the past three weeks. And they’ve gotten pretty good.

The Salinas Valley 4’s resemble the Salinas Valley during sunset. “The farm workers have been working really hard, especially during these times. So I wanted to pay tribute,” says Samuel Gilsilva.

While a big part of this is creating something new, that’s not their driving force.

“Hopefully inspiring other people to do the same. To find what they have always wanted to do and actually make it happen,” Coach Gil says.

And for different people, that means different things.  “Art, dance. Whatever the talents may be that are in your family, this is a time where you can learn from each other,” says Eva.

The family plans to keep this business alive once the shelter in place orders expire.  Creating something new, one sneaker at a time.

You can find more about their shoes on their social media pages.
