Fire at elementary school in Salinas being investigated as suspicious

SALINAS, Calif.

Salinas Fire and Police responded to a call near the 500 block of Rochex Avenue where they extinguished a fire at Kammann Elementary School.

A passerby called in at around 3 a.m. and said they saw a trashcan with flames coming out of it.

Firefighters had to break the locks on the school gates to get in and were able to extinguish the fire within 5 minutes.

Some damage was sustained but no injuries were reported.

Police are now looking into surveillance cameras to determine the cause of the fire.
