Driver of armored truck treated for major injuries after SR 156 crash
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 4/9/2020 6 p.m. The CHP is investigating a crash that left the driver of an armored truck in the hospital with major injuries.
The crash happened at around 9:15 Thursday morning, according to the CHP, near SR 156 and Oak Hills Drive. There were two vehicles involved, a 2018 Freightliner armored truck and a 1994 International attenuator truck.
The CHP said both vehicles were heading west on SR 156 when the attenuator truck started merging right, hitting the armored truck.
The attenuator truck landed on the driver side. blocking the south shoulder of SR 156, and the armored truck ended up on the north shoulder.
The driver of the armored truck had major injuries and was taken to Natividad for treatment. The driver of the attenuator truck was treated at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
The CHP has not released any information about what may have caused the crash.
PREVIOUS STORY: The CHP is telling drivers to expect a two hour delay if they are driving in the area around SR 156 and Oak Hills Drive.
There was a major two vehicle crash there, according to the CHP, involving a Caltrans truck that is on its side and an armored vehicle.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
