What are the symptoms of coronavirus?
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The most common symptoms of the coronavirus are fever, cough and shortness of breath. But these symptoms are also characteristics of other viruses, too, like the flu or common cold.
This presents challenges for health care workers in determining if your symptoms are indeed related to COVID-19 or another virus.
Doctor Maximiliano Cuevas with Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas says It’s important to consider if you have any pre-existing conditions first. For example, with asthma, you may have shortness of breath for that reason rather than COVID-19.
“Hopefully now with more widespread testing, that’s how we differentiate from the common cold or the flu, but there’s not enough testing right now,” Cuevas said.
What causes a severe reaction and how the virus affects our bodies is not completely understood at this time.
Those with mild cases can discontinue home isolation once they are symptom free for several days.
If they tested positive before, they need to get tested again to see if there are no signs of the virus anymore.
Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital offers drive-thru screening by referral for people who are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and who have possibly been exposed to someone tested positive for COVID-19 or have recently traveled to a restricted country.
