Food Safety: Tips on staying germ free at the store and by delivery
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) As the coronavirus continues to spread, grocery stores are staying packed with people, and delivery services remain busy. While many of us are taking the shelter in place very seriously, we all have to eat! Let’s talk about how to get food safely and germ free.
First off, ordering food to your house seems to be the safest way to get a hot meal. There are several delivery options out there, like DoorDash, Grubhub, Postmates and locally owned Doorbell Dining in Monterey. These services are offering contact free delivery methods, and most are no longer accepting cash.
KION caught up with Dave Stewart with Doorbell Dining, he said he’s teaching his crew to be extremely sanitary “ensuring that they clean everything, their door knobs, our office door knobs, steering wheels, all that stuff on a regular basis.”
While delivery sounds great… sometimes you need to stock the pantry. If you decide to go to the store make sure to bring hand sanitizer- use it before and after you leave. Also, make sure to disinfect the shopping cart, and avoid using cash if you can.
Lastly, when you get home, disinfect your boxes and cans, and wash your produce with soapy water --health experts say that will kill the virus.
