Salinas golf course still open Sunday despite shelter-in-place order
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Salinas Fairways Golf Course was open Sunday afternoon, despite Governor Gavin Newsom's order to close all non-essential businesses.
KION found many people were out on the green and at the driving range.
We reached out to the business this morning.
CEO Jeff Christiansen said they were making the decision to close and did not want to comment as to why they were open days after the governor’s stay at home order was announced.
Course officials took to social media saying they're aware of the stay at home order and are working with the health department to create a social distancing plan.
For now, they say they will close their doors sometime Sunday.
Monterey County said the only businesses that should remain open are those that specifically protect the health, safety and welfare of the community.
