Carmel schools and programs will be closed

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (KION)

Carmel Unified School District has decided all eleven Carmel schools and programs will be closed temporarily between Friday, March 13 through Friday, March 27. This includes preschools and afterschool care.

This is the first school cancellation in Monterey County.

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 within Monterey County at this time. However, the decision was weighed after Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement that mass gatherings should be postponed or canceled statewide to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Educators are reporting to work on Friday, March 13 to receive instructions.

On Wednesday, March 18 remote instruction will begin. This will be provided with packets of materials at elementary levels and online at secondary levels.
