Pacific Grove man dies in crash on SR 1 south of Castroville
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 3/5/2020 2:40 p.m. A 74-year-old Pacific Grove man died as a result of a crash on SR1 south of Castroville Thursday morning.
It happened as the man was driving northbound approaching Nashua Road. The CHP said his vehicle drifted into the center median and hit a concrete bridge support, but investigators to not know yet if he had a medical emergency before hitting the support or if he died of injuries resulting from the crash.
The CHP said he did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
UPDATE 3/5/2020 12:15 p.m. The CHP tells KION that a man in his mid-60s died after a crash on northbound SR 1 Thursday morning.
The crash happened just after 11 a.m. at Nashua south of Castroville. A gray Honda Element was driving north when it hit the center divide, which is part of the bridge.
The man was the only person in the vehicle. While he was being transported to Natividad, he was pronounced dead.
The CHP is not able to release any more information about the victim yet. Investigators said drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash at this time.
Traffic is continuing to flow and the vehicle was taken away.
PREVIOUS STORY: The CHP is investigating a fatal crash on northbound SR 1 near Nashua Road south of Castroville.
The CHP tells KION that one vehicle was involved, and at least one person died.
The vehicle is not blocking the road, and the CHP is not sure of the impact on traffic yet.
