The mother of a young man shot and killed in Salinas is asking for your help
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Sylvia Vidalez is asking that anyone with information that could help police make an arrest in her son’s murder please come forward.
It’s been two more than weeks since Vidalez's 19-year-old son, Fabian Moreno, was shot and killed along West and Archer Streets. The teen's death marked Salinas' first homicide of 2020.
"My gut told me it was bad....When I arrived to the hospital, doctors told me there was nothing more they could do for him," Videlez said.
Today, her home is filled with flowers, Fabian recently laid to rest.
Now, the grieving mother wants to know if her son was specifically targeted or if his death was part of a robbery gone wrong.
Police say Moreno and two others were sitting in their car when at least one person approached them. According to one of the passengers, the suspect ordered the car's occupants out of the vehicle.
As the occupants tried to escape, the suspect opened fire. Moreno was struck in the torso.
“I still cant believe he's gone. It's been very difficult to accept. The police say it's a process -- they’re investigating, that's all I’ve been told," Videlez said.
Vidalez remembers Fabian as a loving son who wanted to give his mother a better future.
She says that Fabian dreamed of becoming a rapper, and that he was not a gang member.
