SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The mother of 19-year-old Fabian Moreno broke her silence, Friday. This comes two weeks after Moreno was shot and killed while sitting in a parked vehicle near West and Archer Street.

alinas Police said Moreno, and two others, were in the vehicle when at least one man approached them with a gun and told them to get out. Moreno was shot in the torso as the group attempted to drive away.

"As a mother, I'm suffering horribly for the death of my son, My siblings, my family, my children, all of our family," said Moreno's mother, Lucia Vidales.

Vidales said she learned of her son's death after he had been transferred to Natividad.

Friday, Vidales said she wants people to know her son was more than just a victim of violence.

Vidales said her son loved music, had a job and, as far as she knew, did not have any enemies.

Vidales said her son was not a part of a gang. The day after the shooting, police said they were investigating whether or not the crime was gang related.

"Until now, I still don't understand. This has been really tough. Police tell me they're in the process of investigating. That's all they've told me," said Vidales.

Salinas Police said the case is still active. Officers said they have received tips, but no arrests have been made.

"I don't want my kid to be a part of those cases that happen every year. If anyone saw anything, heard anything, please call the police. Do it for my son and all the other young people who have died," said Vidales.
