Red Cross to install free smoke alarms in Greenfield
GREENFIELD, Calif. (KION) As part of a series of "Sound the Alarm-- Save a Life" events, Red Cross volunteers with local fire departments and other partners are installing free smoke alarms, and on Feb. 29, teams will be installing them in Greenfield.
Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., teams will visit homes to install the alarms, but also provide information about fire prevention and earthquake preparedness.
In 2019, the American Red Cross' Central Coast Chapter said volunteers installed 1,500 smoke alarms in three counties.
The events are part of the Home Fire Campaign, which began in 2014 with the goal of reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires. The Red Cross said home fires kill seven people and injure 36 others on average every day in the U.S.
