Conservation group buys grove of old-growth redwoods in Santa Cruz Mountains
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A San Francisco conservation group has reached an agreement to buy a canyon in the Santa Cruz Mountains that includes 100 acres of ancient redwood trees.
Save the Redwoods League says the purchase will help create a continuous corridor of protected redwood habitat stretching to the Pacific Ocean.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the conservation group on Thursday reached an agreement to buy the 564-acre Cascade Creek. The land is nestled between Big Basin Redwoods and Año Nuevo state parks.
The league has raised $8.6 million of the $9.6 million needed to complete the transaction.
