(KION) The California Strawberry Commission is offering a scholarship, but it is only open to a specific group of students- the children of strawberry fieldworkers.

Applications are now open for the 2020/2021 school year. To be eligible, first-time applicants must have a parent who is currently employed as a California strawberry fieldworker for the current and two prior harvest seasons, be enrolled full-time in a trade school, community college, four-year university or a graduate/professional program during the period for which the scholarship is requested and maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Applicants may also qualify if they work as a strawberry fieldworker.

The deadline for new applicants is Feb. 15 at midnight. The deadline for reapplying students is Feb. 1 at midnight.

According to the California Strawberry Commission, the scholarship program has given more than $2.6 million to hundreds of students.

The scholarship money can be used for tuition, room and board, textbooks and other education-related expenses.
