MONTEREY AND SAN BENITO COUNTIES, Calif. (KION) The driver of a big rig was arrested after the CHP said he led officers on a chase on Highway 101.

On Sunday at around 4:15 p.m., Monterey CHP officers tried to stop a 1995 Kenworth tractor for vehicle code violations on the highway near Laurel Drive, but said the driver did stop and went north on the 101 at about 60 to 70 mph.

Officers deployed a spike strip that flattened both front tires. The tractor pulled onto the shoulder of the highway, but the CHP said the driver refused to get out.

After some negotiation, the CHP said the 25-year-old driver from Soledad got out and was arrested.

Highway 101 in both directions at Betabel Road saw delays of about 20 minutes during the incident.
