SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) Crews in Santa Cruz battled a house fire on Second Avenue Monday morning.

At around 8 a.m., firefighters responded to multiple reports of a house on fire. Those who arrived first saw heavy smoke coming from the single-story house with neighbors nearby. They made sure nobody was home and began fighting the fire.

Crews found fire inside a wall with smoke coming from the attic when they got inside. Firefighters were able to knock down and extinguish the fire within 30 minutes. After that, firefighters started working to save any valuables in the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the fire department said it does not appear to be suspicious.
