WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz County residents are invited to a meeting that will include information about the Pajaro River Flood Risk Reduction Project.

The goal of the project is to prevent floods by rebuilding levees or adding new setback levees or floodwalls and contain larger flood flows within the Pajaro River channel. The project could also lead to less maintenance, habitat improvements for endangered species, more groundwater recharge and more recreational opportunities.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta is expected to be at the meeting along with other elected officials and federal, state and local agencies.

The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Civic Center Community Room on Main Street in Watsonville.
