FELTON, Calif. (KION) Three Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies received an award for saving the life of a man who told his family he intended to commit suicide.

Deputies Martinez, Cooper and Pruger received the Sheriff's Office Life Saving award for their response to the incident earlier this year.

They responded to a report from the man's family members that he texted them saying he intended to commit suicide by overdosing and began searching.

The deputies found his car in Felton, and he was suffering from an overdose. The Sheriff's Office said the man's pulse was faint and he was barely breathing, but the deputies administered two doses of Narcan and he regained consciousness.

The man was taken to a local hospital and survived.
