Deputy injured while responding to domestic violence call in Chualar

CHUALAR, Calif. (KION) A Monterey County Sheriff's deputy was treated for injuries at a local hospital after responding to a domestic violence call.

Early Saturday morning, the deputy responded to a report of a domestic violence incident on Grant Street in Chualar. The caller said 25-year-old Gilberto Perez Acosta had punched his child's mother in the face and choked her. After the victim called for help, the Sheriff's Office said Acosta went out to his truck.

The first deputy got to the scene alone, and surveillance video shows Acosta apparently ramming his truck into the patrol car. The Sheriff's Office said he stopped when the truck became partially disabled.

Acosta was arrested, treated for injuries and booked into the Monterey County Jail. The Sheriff's Office said the deputy had bumps and bruises, but will be okay.
