PRUNEDALE, Calif. (KION-TV): The Monterey County District Attorney's Office is taking on yet another officer-involved shooting investigation, this time in Prunedale.

The CHP confirmed to us Sunday night about the incident. The D.A., meanwhile, has yet to provide an update on what led up to a shot being fired.

Monterey County Sheriff's deputies were on scene with Salinas Police and CHP, each attempting to track down an apparent suspect who was last seen going up a hill into a residential area off Strawberry Canyon Road in Prunedale.

Neighbors say authorities were able to track down the suspect who hid in the garage of one of the nearby homes.

"It was definitely an eye-opener," says Robert Dieke. Dieke noticed something was wrong when traffic suddenly stopped on San Miguel Canyon Road. "I saw about 10 to 14 CHP and Sheriff's cars rush by."

In video provided to KION, you can clearly see someone being arrested by authorities.

The D.A. would not provide preliminary information about the incident, including the agencies involved and who the suspect was.

When questioned if deputies made the first shot, the sheriff's office responded that they "did not shoot."

Salinas Police says they're assistance with the investigation was primarily in allowing their police K-9s to be used for the operation.

The CHP, meanwhile, did not have comment and directed us to the D.A.

Residents said there were safety concerns throughout Sunday as they had no idea what was going on but were told either to stay in their homes or away from the scene as the investigation was ongoing.

“To have something in our little community like a shooting...that can get too close to home," says Dieke. "It just worries everybody."

The D.A.'s office recently released a statement on another officer-involved shooting in Salinas near the Sanborn Place train tracks.

In that incident, no one was hit by a shot fired by a Salinas police officer.

The CHP would not release any information regarding the shooting and has not confirmed the location.

It is unclear how many people were involved or the extent of injuries.

There is a hard closure of San Miguel Canyon Road and Strawberry Road as well as Elkhorn Road just north of Prunedale, but it is unknown at this time if the two are related. The roads have been closed for several hours and remain closed at last check.

CHP confirms road closures at San Miguel Canyon Road and Strawberry Road as well as Elkhorn Road as of 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Residents in the area have noted heavy law enforcement presence on social media, but it is unknown at the time if the this related to the shooting.

We reached out to the CHP several times, but they could not confirm for us exactly what's happening in that area.

This is a developing story. Check back here for updates.
