Mountain lion sighting in Santa Cruz County
A Santa Cruz County family woke up to a surprise visit from three mountain lions.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, says deputies were called to that family’s home in the Rolling Woods neighborhood Wednesday. The residents spotted two moutnain lion cubs and their mother who later jumped a fence and left the her cubs under the family’s car.
The sheriff’s office contacted the Department of Fish and Wildlife along with the Puma Project. It turned out the Puma Project had already been tracking that particular mountain lion and traced her in the Henry Cowell area. Brook Knoll Elementary School was on lockdown for part of the morning.
The sheriff’s office said that everyone agreed to let the mother mountain lion come back for her cubs naturally, which is exactly what she did.
The sheriff’s office says it serves as a reminder to look out for wildlife and take precautions.
