Overturned big-rig closes all southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Gilroy

GILROY, Calif. (CBS SF)

UPDATE 11/11/2019 2:45 p.m. Southbound Highway 101 north of Gilroy is expected to be closed for 4 to 6 more hours after a big rig tanker overturned.

Cal Fire SCU said a Special Operations Task Firce is trying to stabilize the overturned big rig. Once that is done, crews will start to off load the product.

PREVIOUS STORY: A big-rig tanker rolled over Monday morning, closing all southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Gilroy, according to KION's sister station in the Bay Area.

The CHP responded to the crash at Masten Avenue at around 11:45 a.m. Traffic was diverted at San Martin Avenue to Monterey Road while fire and hazmat crews responded to the scene.

Drivers in the area should expect delays and are asked to find alternate routes. Crews do not know when the lanes will reopen.
