Beach hazard for sneaker waves in place at Asilomar and Marina state beaches

A beach hazard is in effect at Asilomar State Beach and Marina State Beach because of an increased risk of sneaker waves.

That means that there is a higher risk of beach goers being swept to sea by a wave. The Monterey County Office of Emergency Services says people should not turn their backs to the ocean and fishermen should avoid fishing from rocks or jetties.

The beach hazard is in effect from Monday at 3 p.m. to Tuesday at 9 a.m.
