Police: Driver causes rollover crash during Highway 25 pursuit
A man was arrested on multiple charges after Hollister police said he led them on a chase and caused a rollover crash.
Police said Wednesday at around 12:50 a.m., an officer tried to stop a vehicle, but it continued speeding through the city and went north on Highway 25.
On Highway 25 near Shore Road, police said deputies with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase. Even though there were not many cars on the road, the driver hit another car when it tried to pass on the right shoulder. The crash sent both drivers into the ditch and the victim’s car rolled over. Police said the suspect’s vehicle got back on the road where hit a concrete center divider before continuing to drive northbound.
Deputies stopped to help those in the victim’s car while an officer continued to follow the suspect. A few hundred yards down the road, police said the car, which at that point had severe tire damage, stopped. The driver, 30-year-old Robert Ebertwoski from Escalon, was arrested.
Police said Ebertowski was on parole and driving on a suspended license. They also said he had more than 10 pounds of marijuana, what they believe are stolen credit cards, social security cards, counterfeit social security cards and birth certificates. Officers also said they found what they believe is meth.
The victim of the crash was treated at the scene for pain.
Ebertowski was booked into the San Benito County Jail and charged with evading a police officer, felony hit-and-run, parole violation, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.
