Cesar Chavez Elementary School placed on lockdown after report of man with a gun

Cesar Chavez Elementary School in Greenfield was placed on a lockdown Thursday afternoon after police received a report of a suspicious man with a gun nearby.

Police responded to the area around Thorp Avenue and Tuscany Way at 12:30 p.m. and initiated the lockdown as a precaution while officers investigated.

After checking neighborhoods near the school, talking to residents and reviewing surveillance video from the area, police said they could not find a suspect or confirm that a crime had been committed. Once police decided the area was safe, the lockdown was lifted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Dyels at 831-674-5111.
