Settlement for asbestos-related violations to be paid by Holman Building owners, operators
The owners and operators of the Holman Building in Pacific Grove will pay $475,000 for violating asbestos-related laws and regulations during a project that is still ongoing.
The building, owned by Monterey Capital PG Founders, is being converted to condominiums by David Gash and his company, Gold Coast Design.
Gash, Gold Coast Design and Monterey Capital PG Founders were accused of violating laws and regulations as a result of inspections by the Monterey Bay Air Resources District between November 2015 and September 2017. The district said the company disturbed materials with asbestos in them several times, and many of those materials had already been identified before the renovation. The district said the materials were disposed of as regular construction waste instead of hazardous waste.
The District Attorney’s Office said Gash, Gold Coast Design and Monterey Capital PG Founders cooperated with the investigation. They will have to pay $375,000 in civil penalties and $100,000 in costs, $475,000 in total.
