Firefighter injured in fire north of Salinas

UPDATE 10/22/2019 8:15 p.m.

A firefighter was hurt while on scene at a wildfire north of Salinas, Tuesday, according to Cal Fire. Battalion Chief Thomas Smith says the firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The Stage Fire, which burned off Old Stage Road grew to a little more than 11 acres as of 8 p.m.. Cal Fire says no structures were damaged.

Forward progress was stopped before 6 p.m.. Crews will return Wednesday morning to mop up hot spots.

UPDATE 10/22/2019 4:54 p.m. Cal Fire said a fire off Old Stage Road has burned 10 to 15 acres and is 10% contained.

Forward progress has been stopped.

PREVIOUS STORY: Cal Fire is sending engines to a fire off Old Stage Road that it believes is currently 3 to 5 acres.

The fire was called in just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Cal Fire said it has the potential to reach about 20 acres. Crews do not know if any structures are threatened yet.
