City to begin counting signatures on petitions to recall two Santa Cruz council members
The city of Santa Cruz received petitions to recall and remove two members of the City Council, and it is now working to count the signatures.
The petitions were submitted to the City Clerk Administrator by the group Santa Cruz United Committee Supporting the Recall of Councilmembers Glover and Krohn Tuesday morning, and the administrator will begin counting the signatures Wednesday morning.
In an effort to be transparent, the room where the signatures are counted, the Tony Hill Room of the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, will be open to the public.
When the city clerk administrator finishes counting the signatures on the petitions, they will be given to the county so it can validate the signatures. The county has 30 days to validate them and give the city an accurate count.
For the council members to be recalled and removed, each petition needs a minimum of 7,938 signatures.
Council members Drew Glover and Chris Krohn both had complaints filed against them, accusing both of harassment and discrimination, and two of the allegations were substantiated by an independent investigator hired by the city.
