Salinas Regional Soccer Complex says parking still free after considering charging
The Salinas Regional Soccer Complex said parking will be free for the remainder of the soccer season after it considered charging for parking.
The complex said the Salinas Regional Sports Authority and the soccer leagues considered charging for parking for several reasons, including:
Because parking has not been controlled, so there are more cars than can fit. As a result, cars have parked in planters, double-parked and obscured visibility.
A fee would be an incentive to carpool and reduce the number of cars.
It would encourage walking, biking or using public transit.
The complex is developing a parking lot design for cars to safely drop off and pick up players.
A fee would help meet financial needs.
There is a cost that comes with managing parking and maintaining a safe lot.
The soccer complex said the decisions are made with the leagues that play there. It said anyone with concerns should contact league leadership.
The Salinas Regional Soccer Complex, which was in the works for 10 years, held its grand opening last month.
