Marina approves short-term rentals, with conditions
The City of Marina voted Tuesday to allow Short-term Rentals, with rules and conditions.
People using their primary residence as an STR would be required to receive a permit from the city, which is good for one year and isn’t guaranteed to be approved. This permit is required for anyone renting, or trying to rent, out their home for no more than 29 consecutive days.
No more than 12 people can stay in an STR, but there are other restrictions depending on the number of bedrooms.
An STR permit may be pulled by the city because of a failure to follow city code and state law. However, the homeowner can appeal this decision.
Guests will be required to pay a Transient Occupancy tax when renting an STR. The rental owner and “hosting platforms” will have to collect the money and send it to the city.
Marina will establish a “city registry.” All short-term rental properties must be on the registry before any transaction.
All Short-term rental properties will be required to have a “Good Neighbor Brochure.” The guidelines in the brochure will be decided by the Planning Commission.
More details and rules are listed in the City of Marina’s agenda packet.
