Three car crash on SR 156 results in major injuries

UPDATE 10/7/2019 5:00 p.m. The CHP said five adults and three minors were taken to the hospital after a three car crash on State Route 156 Sunday evening.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. west of Bixby road. A man was driving a gray Chrysler 200 eastbound when he hit the rear of a silver Acura TSX. The Acura was stopped when it was hit.

The impact pushed the Acura into the westbound lane and into the path of a green Ford F-150. The Ford and Acura collided head-on. In total, five adults and three minors were taken to Natividad for their injuries. A 25-year-old King City woman was treated for major injuries.

State Route 156 was closed in both directions for about an hour and 20 minutes. The CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs is a factor, but the crash is still under investigation.

The CHP said one car overturned in the collision which happened around 7 p.m. near Bixby Road on Highway 156. Both vehicles involved in the accident had major damages and the people inside sustained major injuries.The CHP said a baby was onboard one of the cars and possibly up to eight people were injured.

The CHP also said another accident happened about 8 minutes after the first.

The lanes were reopened in both directions just after 9 p.m. Sunday night.
