Police: Student arrested with semi-automatic gun, knife at San Jose State University
Police in Sunnyvale said a 17-year-old San Jose State University student was arrested when the student was found with a semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and a knife on the university’s campus.
Police first investigated social media threats reported by Homestead High School staff. Police were able to identify and find the person who made the threats.
Sunnyvale officers went to San Jose University and got help finding the student, who was reported to be on campus. San Jose State University Police found the student and said they had the gun, ammo and knife. The student was arrested without incident.
Investigators in Sunyvale served a search warrant at the student’s home, and officers said they found another handgun, an airsoft rifle, ammunition, equipment to manufacture ammunition and knives. Police believe they were acting alone.
The student was booked into Juvenile Hall, but the student’s name and identifying information will not be released due to age.
