Fire officials warning about alleged fire inspector

Central Coast fire officials are warning about a man saying he is doing fire extinguisher inspections.

They say a business on Freedom Boulevard in Watsonville was approached by a man saying he was there for an annual fire extinguisher inspection, and that there would be a $25 fee per extinguisher.

The man said he was from a company called FireShield, but could not give a phone number, business card or correct address. A person identifying himself as the owner of FireShield contacted KION to say that his company was licensed by the California Fire Marshal and it was not associated with the person in question.

He is described as a white or Hispanic man. He is about 5 feet 5 inches tall with dark hair, a baseball cap, a dark gray t-shirt, jeans and a clipboard with a paper saying “FireShield” on it.
