Gilroy Stronger Benefit Concert to raise money for shooting victims

This summer the town of Gilroy has proudly stood together as ” Gilroy Strong. ” Saturday, they are ” Gilroy Stronger. ” Community members said even just two months after tragedy there is healing. ” As horrible as the event was, it really brought everybody together, ” said Gilroy resident, Bryson Smith.

Saturday, people were brought together with music, food, and for the good of the cause. A benefit concert was put on for the victims of the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting. Organizers said although the tragedy did not affect their families, like it did others, they knew they needed to help. ” If I was there, it could’ve been me or someone that I know. I had family that was at the festival. It just hit too close to home, ” said head organizer, Shadi Strand.

The money raised, Saturday, will go to the families who were impacted most. Strand said she hopes the event will impact people in a way that money can’t buy, as well. ” We wanted a day to bring healing to people. People that were affected, or had family, or not. We wanted something that would bring people together and show that we are so much stronger that what happened, ” said Strand.

The ” Gilroy Stronger ” team has raised over $52,000 for the Gilroy Foundation, so far. They said they don’t plan to stop here. ” We’re a small community. We were ‘Gilroy Strong’ when it started, but now we’re ‘Gilroy Stronger’ through all this tragedy, hurt, and pain, ” said Gilroy resident and volunteer, Felix Delarosa .

” Unfortunately it happened, but we’re going to move forward, and we’re stronger for it, ” said Gilroy City Council member, Fred Tovar .
