Bulletproof backpacks available for purchase at Central Coast retailers
For some parents, there’s an additional item on the list of back-to-school items this year.
Although it’s a sad reality to face in 2019, bullet-resistant backpacks are now for sale at stores like Office Max and Office Depot and Bed Bath and Beyond, including locations here on the Central Coast.
Homedepot.com and other retailers are carrying the brand.
The backpacks cost anywhere from $100 to $200.
The company that makes them is called “Dog Guard Security” and claims it can stop a bullet from a .44 Magnum handgun but it won’t stop a high-velocity rifle.
Guard Dog Security’s founder, Yasir Shiekh, told KGUN that he wants the backpacks to make parents and students be prepared rather than scared.
“I personally think whether it’s with our bulletproof backpacks, or not, it’s about starting that conversation of school safety, about possible active shooter situations,” he said.
