Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival bans Native American headdresses

Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park will not be allowing attendees to wear Native American headdresses this year, according to KION’s sister station in San Francisco.

“American Indian headdresses” were added to the list of items banned at the three-day festival. Organizers said headdresses have become a trend at music festivals recently.

“Out of respect for Native American heritage and culture, we do not allow headdresses at Outside Lands. We are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all…” said event organizers in a statement.

Other items banned from the festival include totems, large inflatables, picnic baskets, strollers, selfie sticks and umbrellas. A clear bag policy was also implemented this year.

The festival runs from Aug. 9-11.
