City of Greenfield opening cooling station at civic center

The city of Greenfield is opening a cooling station Thursday and Friday at the civic center’s council chambers. The station will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

The city also provided safety tips for hot weather:

Don’t leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles. Drink plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty. Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning. Check on animals often to make sure they are not suffering in the heat. Sign up for alerts to receive emergency information.

The city recommends that those who must go outside in the heat:

Avoid strenuous work during the hottest part of the day. Use a buddy system in extreme heat. Take breaks often. Wear loose-fitting clothes that are lightweight, light-colored and cover as much skin as possible. Wear sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat.
