Santa Cruz Police: Suspicious package not a device or crime

UPDATE 7/24/2019 1:30 p.m. Chief Andy Mills with Santa Cruz police said the situation on the 800 block of Pacific Avenue is clear.

A suspicious package that was under investigation in the area is not a device or crime, according to Mills.

The area is back open to vehicles and pedestrians.

PREVIOUS STORY: Santa Cruz Police Chief Andy Mills wrote on social media that the 800 block of Pacific Avenue is shut down because of a suspicious package.

Pacific Avenue is closed in both directions from Laurel to Maple to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

You are asked to avoid the area. Patrol and fire are at the scene.
