One person shot by CHP officers in Monterey County

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office confirms that a shooting near Toro Park Tuesday night involved CHP officers.
The shooting happened on Estoque Place and Portola outside Salinas city limits. The CHP blocked off the area, and one person was taken to Natividad.
According to neighbors, the suspect sped onto Estoque Place just before 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect, driving a red truck rammed into a Dodge Durango parked near the end of the block.
Neighbors say the suspect continued driving down the cul-de-sac and barricaded himself in a home. According to neighbors, the suspect has family that lives at the home where the shooting took place.
Neighbors tell KION, they heard between 15-20 shots fired.
The incident came as a shock to many neighbors who say it is typically a quiet neighborhood.
“The world we live in today we have to expect everything. It may be the best, the safest neighborhood, [or] the wealthiest neighborhood. Doesn’t mean things like what happened last night won’t happen,” Nicoletta Aguccioni said.
The DA’s Office has taken over the investigation and has not confirmed any further details.
