Child uses app to fake bomb threat at Sunset Center

Carmel police said in a news release that a 10-year-old attending the Bach Festival at the Sunset Center faked a bomb threat on Friday.

Police said the child was attending the concert with his parent, who is an employee of the Bach Festival. He initially told staff that he had received a text message containing a bomb threat, and the staff member called police.

Carmel police with help from other agencies evacuated the building and surrounding areas. The bomb squad cleared the building and the festival continued

The 10-year-old who reported the bomb threat admitted to using a phone app to send the text through a fake number. He said he thought the text would be funny, but got scared when he saw the response from law enforcement.

The child’s mother called police after the incident and apologized.
