Santa Cruz police investigating voter intimidation complaints
Chief Andrew Mills, with Santa Cruz police, said Thursday on social media that the department has received voter intimidation complaints. They relate to a petition to recall City Council members.
Mills said they take the complaints seriously and are investigating them. The Police Department has received complaints from those both for and against the recall.
“People are free to participate in democracy. Santa Cruz police implore all to participate but be respectful, know your rights and do not interfere or impede one another in the right to exercise constitutional rights,” Mills wrote.
The group Santa Cruz United started the petition in hopes of getting a measure on the November ballot to recall council members Drew Glover and Chris Krohn. The homepage for the organization states that one of the reasons behind the recall is to rebalance the city’s government.
